HARLON’S INSPIRATIONAL STORY

Harlon Crosby aka Harlon Avant is a young up and coming artist and aspiring animator from Queens New York.  It was through his talent and love of art that he was able to overcome autism after being diagnosed at 2 years of age.  Harlon's mother began teaching him how to draw at an early age in an effort to help him communicate via drawings.  Since at the time, Harlon was non-verbal, his drawings allowed him to show people specifically what he wanted by drawing these items on paper.

Creative inspiration has surrounded Harlon since a very young age.  His father was an avid record collector, DJ and music producer.  Besides being an interior decorator and muralist, Harlon's mother was also a well known underground hip-hop artist.  Via his dad, Harlon's home was always filled with all types of music from soul to rock to hip hop.  Even today, while other young adults are listening to the latest pop or rap tunes, Harlon's Ipod is filled with artist, such as James Brown, Galt MacDermot, Willie Mitchell, The Beatles and The Wu-Tang Clan.

Via his mother, Harlon's home was also filled with African art, fine art, graffiti art and all aspects of interior design.  It was through this environment he was visually introduced to two of his favorite artists, Maurice Evans and Justin Bua.  Later, Harlon would have the opportunity to meet Justin Bua in person, receiving words of encouragement from one of his favorite artists.  He would also later receive personal words of inspiration from favorite artist Maurice Evans as well. Harlon is also a fan of artists like Picasso and has become very fond of the Cubism style of art.  All of these creative influences are evident today in his artistic work.  His animated drawings, paintings, sketches and, cartoons seem to be an inspirational cross between animated cubism, art deco and urban inspirations

Harlon graduated high school at the top of his class and upon graduation received the Academic Achievement Award from New York City.  He was also the only student in his graduating class to receive a standard "non-I.E.P." diploma.  Harlon Crosby later attended LaGuardia Community College, where he was on the Dean's List and Honors Society, receiving a degree in FIne Arts and Design.  He later was accepted into the NYC Fashion Institute of Technology where he received a degree in Communication Design, as well as a third college degree in Computer Animation and Interactive Media. His career goal is to create a series of animated cartoons in the future and maybe one day start an animation television network of his own.  Harlon Crosby hopes to inspire others not only with his art, but also with his inspirational story.
